Gay Marriage

As a liberal woman, I support Gay marriage.
If a person has chosen a life partner then they should get legal rights to share insurance and other legal benefits like any couple. Its nothing to do with their sexuality.

BUT my DS radar was jarringly awakened by Perez Hilton and his incredulous reaction to Carrie Prejean’s answer at Miss USA 2009 pageant.
The series of events that happened for entire America to witness were incredible!
It just put Gays in a very sad light.
Why did Carrie had to pay for being a conservative?
Why could she not have her own, true view of what marriage is?

For me being a liberal is all about liberty and respect for everyone’s differences.
That does not mean a person who is conservative in their thinking is not fit to take active social roles.
The viciousness of reactions towards this young woman were stupid , ridiculous and outrageous.
Yes, Huffington Post did carry blog where a gay said, Perez is not reflecting entire representation of Gay community.
Unfortunately that kind of voice was low in this horrible circumstances the poor girl found herself.

I applaud her to sticking to her values and not giving anyone an inch.

It also makes me feel that my entire idea of supporting others for liberty and ‘respect’ is pointless when the people whom i am trying to respect, do not reciprocate the same respect to people different than them.
