What a girl would do if she thinks herself to be very liberal and cool.
She is having a love marriage with her boyfriend of many years! She wants to stamp it with her liberalism..
Well! you must have guessed that was me!
Ok so what did i do?Well! Nothing too crazy, I just did not change my sirname after marriage.
Hah! that is all! you would say….
BUT! things changed as i did my DS..
In 2006 we had to take rounds of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 3 weeks after a preterm delivery.
The kids are referred as mom’s sirname and their first name at NICU.
It just felt wrong.
That was not my aim!
I wanted to get it changed but the staff said that would happen only after NICU discharges them and children are in our custody.It was bizarre.
I deprived my husband, a first time father, the chance of seeing his child with his sirname for 3 long weeks.
Since that experience i have been wanting to change my sirname.Unfortunately now a passport is involved and just so many documents.Hence it has really not happend yet!
I wish that it had never happend! I wish that i had been conservative like most people and changed my name.I am pretty sure once we get our citizenship here, i will be doing it.
