Meta Tags for Blogspot users

This blog post is my further attempt to demystify Meta Tags.I could call it ‘Meta Tags for everyone’ too!

Carma Sez said – this is one of the shortcomings of being on blogger (not self-hosted) -no meta tags and crappy blog grade. On the other hand, it’s free!!

Honey, you will be happy to know that you have a wrong impression. My fellow blogger, with PR 5, whom i was studying in the last blog is on blogspot!

Here is how to get Meta Tags for a blogspot blog!

Just like an apple a day can really keep a doctor away, you can do lots of SEO stuff for your blog for free too without wasting your precious money on so called professionals.

1. Generate Meta Tags easily

Go to Submit Express Meta Tag Generator… its free.

Add your blog name, description, key words in the form
voila!
it generates the meta tag html for you

Now open the layout section of your blog
Go to edit html
Cut and paste this NEW HTML on top of your HTML page in a text editor.
Warning: Before you do this experiment, please download your older template for safety.

2. Are the newly generated Meta Tags Working?

Go to Submit Express Meta Tag Analyzer.

See if the tags are relevant and are good to excellent.
if yes, congratulations! you are done!

3. Tweak the new Meta Tags…Will ya?

If not go back to the generator… tweak….and do all the steps again.

Also my 2 cents on wordpress vs blogspot
As far as i am concerned , Blogspot is perfect except its commenting section.
I spend 84$/year to be on wordpress through bluehost.
If by this blogs’ 1 year blogoversary, i do not recover that money, I have two options left.

1.Shift to blogspot and have same dot com for 10$
2.Find a free host for wordpress. From what i have heard they run a small ad at a place or 2 and so if i get my domain transferred to godaddy, and subscribe to say netflix, i can transfer this domain virtually free of cost.If i do not subscibe netflix, i can get domain transferred under 6$/year.

If i do shift to blogspot, i would change commenting to Haloscan.I have seen one of my favorite bloggers Bitch PHD use it with great ease and i am highly impressed.

Edit: Haloscan is part of Js-Kit now.Disqus is current free commenting resource.

So in short, you can do almost anything with blogspot! Have faith!
It even lets you run ads.Do you know wordpress.com users can not do that?
It is java script enabled! You can show off your mcklinky on it!

Also how many of us really do start making money blogging? Its my number one priority! Would i be able to do it before one year blogversary?
I have my fingers crossed!
Lets wait and watch!

Update: This Meta Tags generator does not work for everybody. Please refer to another Meta Tags Generator Tutorial on Amity’s blog Makeover post.

    Hi Shrads,

making money out of blogging? yeah that was my agenda the first time i step onto it…but when a couple of friends i’ve asked to edit and make new template for me, i was asked if i am on AdSense and said yes, seems there is difficulty in editing my template, or so i think.

so a month ago, i deleted the AdSense but had somehow earn more or less $10 as of this time.

anyways, i can’t really understand much about your post here.

    :)

Ummmm……what the heck is a meta tag??

  3. Theta Mom says:

I am moving to WP soon, so I hope this stuff is embedded in the theme!

  4. Martha says:

I don’t know why but the standard blogspot stuff doesn’t really bother me and with blogging being my favorite hobby I don’t even think about using it to make money – the thought has entered my mind here and there but I’ve never followed through with it. I think I’m afraid if I take that route blogging will turn into work and then it wouldn’t be fun anymore!

I am not buying into the WordPress thing. I don’t want to pay to blog. I like it free! Thanks for the tips!

  11. veronica lee says:

I’ve been blogging for a little more than a year and all I’ve made is less than $15 from Adsense!!

  12. mary taitt says:

What is the purpose of Metatags and why would we want them?

I wouldn’t blog at all if I had to pay for it, probably.

  13. Jim says:

Thanks for that, Shrads. I probably won’t do it but I figured there was a way to get the Metatags.
Google does a good job with me without them. A lot of time I am on the first page of search.
    Google these:
    Millau Viaduct Race (# 4)
used shrimp boat for sale (# 2)
    difference between a bayou and a river (# 1)
But I am sure that maybe I will try them some day soon.
Thank you again for the information.
