One single impression poetry prompt – Gold

*This poem is for One Single Impression Poetry Prompt – Gold*

Never felt the value of gold
Till i realized its worth
24 karat that mom gave
I never wore or cared
Till insecurity rushed my veins
Reality in my face like truth or dare
That day in India
When i opened my locker
My mother in law beside me
The pride
The love
The care i felt
That went in making that jewelry for me
Its my dad’s sweat
My mothers planning
Their desire to build something for me
Its my security
I thank you now
A bit late now
But I understand the worth of gold

Thanks mucho, Shradda! This pretty bling will help ease me back into work tomorrow…:)

Thanks for the interesting facts about you and your family. Intuition thing is somewhat fascinating to me! Sure, you are great brains being a champ of maths Olympiad. What forced you to choose medical stream after day in engineering college? What ever it is, glad to be reading your blog and to have known a friend like you :)

    Thanks for the award too!

    Hey Shrads,

What a lovely poem, a beautiful post… :) But I guess I feel envious with not being included in your magic 7 whom you awarded with a Kreativ Blogger…but honestly am no creative one coz you were the one who made my template, he he he!

And my golden post, yeah sure, you are!

Have a great week ahead! Hugs dear!

Oh, so beautiful. What an insight.

Today I saw a sign at the mall encouraging people to trade in their jewelry for cash: “Because jewelry lasts longer than relationships.” How horrible. Your poem speaks to the contrary.

Hi Shrads, I came running over here! You are very fortunate with your academic ability. Congratulations.
Your first person poet/writer is fortunate in two ways: 1st to have such thoughtful and generous parents; and 2nd to come to realize how much they loved her and the amount of their sacrifice.

And I am fortunate to have a blogging friend like you. :-)

It’s always fun to look back at school and college times.. seems like you enjoyed academics apart from all the creative stuff you put up here.. A poet and a math brain !!! :)

Beautiful poem! Congrats on your award!

  21. 21

very bizarre about the intuition – would have totally freaked me out too…I’m impressed by all that you have accomplished academically – and in the rest of your life, too :-)

  22. 22

I love these facts about you. Math Olympiad- way to go. You are not only book smart but you have amazing intuition and inspire people. You are wonderful!

  23. 23

I love that impression – everything can be seen from a different perspective!

  24. 24

You gave the word gold such a grand meaning…that of your parent’s sacrifice for you. Lovely writing!

  25. 25

Excellent–I really liked how you turned the value of a golden necklace to really being about how much your parents loved you.

  26. 26

The support and caring of our parents is certainly worth it’s weight in gold. This is a caring piece written to those you love. Touching.

Shrads, I tried to open your page in the Writeup Cafe but each time I got a pop-up window saying “Windows Explorer can not open …” and then it went off when I got rid of the pop-up. Sorry, Jim

  32. 33

I love finding worth in things we don’t think we will- great thoughts there! And it’s fun finding out more about you!

Hey girl, I came her to comment on insomnia. You tell it like it is. I have done the other way, now I only need three or four hours of sleep. I learned this from a student guard at our NASA facility. Just gradually cut back. I was a student too back then, it helped a lot with my busy schedule.
    ..
BTW, my insomnia ‘poem’ doesn’t rhyme either.

Nice scene. Good idea for details.

I’m still reading you, but you’ve had your comments off! Anyway, wanted to tell you that I passed along your Kreativ Blogger Award today. Thanks, Shradda…you’re the best!

It’s been said, better late than never, and I believe that’s true … as life is a journey … and I’m sure your parents knew that. Great poem.

The security that comes from those who love us and care for us – that is priceless.
